追随摄影法主要是靠背景的虚动和被摄主体的清晰之间的强烈对比来表现动感的。为了更好的强调这种对比，以及强烈的动感，拍摄时宜选用深色的、呈纷乱状的背景，如树丛、人群、深色的建筑物等。这样，在转动照相机追随拍摄时，背景才能出现模糊的线条，与明亮清晰的拍摄主体形成强烈对比。光线宜采用侧光和逆光，使运动主体可以获得鲜明的轮廓线条，不易与背景的影调融混，从而更有利于突出被摄主体。
